Coronavirus Updates as of March 19, 2020

Dear Cornerstone Family,

We want you to know that our elders, deacons, and staff are praying earnestly and regularly for our church family and for all the many hardships that this current situation is placing on us all. As we live through these unusually difficult times, let’s all remember, as we were reminded last Sunday, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble,” Psalm 46:1.

If you have any urgent needs for essentials, picking up groceries, filling prescriptions, etc., please feel free to call our church office. We are setting up an online process where those with specific urgent needs can be matched with those in our church who can meet those needs. There are likely going to be many ways in the coming weeks where we can love one another in tangible ways by serving one another in Christ. We will draw your attention to those ways in coming communications.

Sunday Worship Services and Meetings

Our elders and staff continue to pay close attention to the guidance of Governor DeWine and his medical team concerning the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Since we know we’re going to be dealing with the high risk of spreading this virus for weeks and probably months to come, we have decided to cancel all church gatherings through (and including) at least Sunday, April 5, 2020. This includes Sunday worship. We hope we won't have to, but it may be that we will need to extend these cancellations beyond that, so stay tuned to our weekly ministry updates. As we did last week, we will continue to stream our worship service on our website each week.

We ask you to please check back at least weekly because ministry decisions and ministry needs among our church family will be evolving regularly. We’ll post alerts on our website, our weekly email newsletter, our Facebook and Instagram pages, via Prayermail, and other means as necessary.

Until we can gather in person again, we are looking at all kinds of ways that we can stay connected and engaged in fellowship and the study of Scripture. We strongly encourage you to resist the temptation to coast in your walk with Christ during these weeks and months. These are unique times (to say the least!) and we need to utilize all kinds of means to stay encouraged and challenged in our faith for the glory of our Savior.

Children’s Ministry

Bobette Hatteberg will be sending all parents of registered children an update of how children’s ministry is adapting to our situation.

At this point we are continuing our preparations for our Kidz Blast week (June 8-12). Of course, we’ll be reassessing the situation as we move along and we’ll update you if anything changes. Please pray for Piper (our eager and enthusiastic penguin mascot) as he deals with the uncertainty. 😊

The Easter Egg Hunt which is scheduled for Saturday, April 4th, is canceled.

Growth Groups

We are encouraging all Growth Groups to continue meeting via online video meetings. The leaders are now getting set up for the video technology. If you’re in a group, your leader will contact you about their plans. They will send you a video meeting link that will connect you with your group through your home computer or your smartphone on your meeting day. You don’t need any special software; the online app will walk you through everything.

It’s important that the church continue to have regular contact with their groups to stay in touch during these times, encourage one another, discuss any needs within the group, stay engaged in studying Scripture, etc. Be looking for an email from your leader.

Thrive Ministry (ages 18-35)

The Thrive leadership team is working on a plan on how to keep everyone connected and completing their study of the book of James. If you attend Thrive and you’re not currently following Thrive on Facebook, we encourage you to join their Facebook group for all the latest updated information: “Thrive (at CCC)”.

Youth Group

The Youth Ministry has decided to move all in-person meetings to online for the time being. Teens are encouraged to tune in to the Youth Group live stream at 7 pm each Friday for a short teaching and some additional resources to take advantage of during the week.

You can find the live stream source on our Facebook page (@cornerstonemayfieldyouth) or on our Instagram page (@cccmayfieldyouth). If you have any questions, contact Josiah Kenniv.

Other Events

We had planned on having our church-wide Community Day outreach on May 30th. We are planning to postpone Community Day to a date later in the summer.

The Passover Seminar scheduled for Sunday, April 5th, has been canceled.

The Women’s Retreat which was scheduled for Saturday, April 18th has been canceled. We are looking at rescheduling the retreat for this fall. Stay tuned for news on an alternate date!

A very sincere thank you for your faithfulness in continuing your regular giving. Regardless of the situation with the virus, the reality is that most of our church operating expenses continue. Feel free to use our website giving app or just send your check to the church via mail or drop it off. The office remains open.

As any new decisions are made, we will let you know through all our communication channels.

Please join us in praying regularly for our church family, for our president, governor, civic leaders, health professionals, and all those who are the most vulnerable to the coronavirus. May the Lord give great wisdom as we navigate these incredibly tenuous times. For the great glory of our Savior and King.

Trusting the Lord for everything, along with you,

Pastor Ed

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39
