Coronavirus Ministry Update - 3-26-2020

Thursday, March 26, 2020 news2

Posted by Ed Fedor, Associate Pastor

Dear Cornerstone Family,

Here are the latest updates and family news you need for this week.

As an unusual new normal sets in, it’s creating new hardships and new potential for growth in all of our lives. Let’s always remember that God is in control, he is good, he loves you, and he will give you all the grace you need for each new day (2 Cor. 9:8, 12:9). Also remember at this time to encourage one another and love one another in Jesus’ name (1 Thess. 5:11)! Our elders, deacons, and staff continue to pray for you.

If you haven’t seen it yet, Pastor Paul posted a video this week to encourage you and bolster your faith in our faithful God in these difficult times: “Exchanging Anxiety for Trust.”

Need help? Or can you help?

If you have any urgent needs for essentials, picking up groceries or prescriptions, or you need counsel or prayer, please let us know. There are a bunch of Cornerstone members who are ready and eager to help you. To let us know about your urgent needs, click here. If you can help meet the needs of our members, please click here. Thank you for loving one another in Jesus’ name!

Sunday Worship Services and Meetings

As we announced in our last letter, we have canceled all church gatherings through (and including) at least Sunday, April 5, 2020. This includes Sunday worship. We may need to extend those cancellations beyond that, so stay tuned to our weekly ministry updates. As we did the last couple weeks, we will continue to stream our worship service on our website each week. We hope you’ll tune in!

We apologize that the video streaming went down in the middle of the service last Sunday. We heard from our streaming provider and they told us that they found the problem and fixed it. We shouldn’t have that problem this week. Thanks for understanding!

Once again, we ask you to please check back at least weekly because ministry decisions and ministry needs among our church family will be evolving regularly. We’ll post alerts on our website, our weekly email newsletter, our Facebook pages, via Prayermail, and other means as necessary.

Here are some ministry updates.

Membership Class

We have rescheduled our Membership Class. It will take place on two Thursday evenings, April 2 and 9, from 7-9 PM, through online video conference. If you have been attending Cornerstone and you’re not yet a member, we would encourage you to attend this class. If you would like to join this class, please register ASAP so we can mail you the materials you’ll need. Pastor Ed will contact you with all the information on how to tune in to the class.

Children’s Ministry

Bobette Hatteberg will be sending all parents of registered children a weekly newsletter with a variety of resources and information about upcoming events.

At this point we are continuing our preparations for our Kidz Blast week (June 8-12). Of course, we’ll be reassessing the situation as we move along and we’ll update you if anything changes.

Growth Groups

As I mentioned last time, we are restarting our Growth Groups through online video conferencing. The discussion questions for the week of April 5th will be posted on our Growth Groups page by this Saturday evening.

If you’re in a group, your leader will send you a video meeting link that will connect you with your group through your home computer or your smartphone on your meeting day. You don’t need any special software; the online app will walk you through everything.

Stay connected! Our Growth Groups are an important means of not only fellowship and Bible study, but also an important means of helping one another through this difficult time. We encourage all Growth Group members to look for ways to extend a hand to each other as needs arise within the group.

Thrive Ministry (ages 18-35)

The Thrive leadership team is now staying connected through video conferencing online. If you’re age 18-35 and you want to be in a small Thrive discussion group, please email Bobette Hatteberg at . If you attend Thrive and you’re not currently following Thrive on Facebook, we encourage you to join their Facebook group for all the latest updated information: “Thrive (at CCC)”.

Youth Group

The Youth Ministry is meeting online on Friday evenings. Teens are encouraged to tune in to the Youth Group live video meeting at 7 pm each Friday for a short teaching and some additional resources to take advantage of during the week. You can find the video link on our Teens page. Contact Josiah Kenniv for more information.

Sunday evening prayer meetings

We started a new prayer meeting last week that is gathering online each Sunday evening at 6:00 to connect and prayer together. You can join us online through your computer or your phone. We look forward to seeing you! Learn all about it here.

We have also put together a helpful prayer guide for the next month. Let’s pray together every day for specific needs. You can find the 31/15 Prayer Guide on this page.

Passover Seminar

We will be holding this important and fascinating seminar through video conferencing. If you are free Sunday evening, April 5th, 6:00-8:00 PM, we encourage you to tune in. Patrick Martin will lead it.

This seminar will cover many aspects of the Jewish Passover, from its origin in playing a pivotal role in freeing the Hebrew slaves in Pharaoh’s Egypt, to Jesus Himself fulfilling it (and changing it) in the upper room the night before He was crucified, to how it relates to the Lord’s Supper for the Church today; the Passover and what it represents is a vital part of the Jewish and Christian faiths. We will also examine the elements of a Passover Seder and how they point to the Mashiach, the Messiah.

From John the Baptist’s “introduction” of Jesus in John 1:29 to Paul’s  clear reference in 1 Cor 5:7 and Peter’s statement in 1 Pet 1: 18-21; the Passover Lamb was a foreshadowing of what the Messiah would accomplish and the Lord’s Supper looks back “in remembrance” of Him and His perfect sacrifice. Please invite family and friends, especially any Jewish friends.

Please register for the seminar in advance here:

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about how to join the meeting.

Women’s Retreat rescheduled

We were able to reschedule our Women’s Retreat for Saturday, October 24th. We’ll let you know all the particulars later this summer. Stay tuned!

A very sincere thank you for your faithfulness in continuing your regular giving. Regardless of the situation with the virus, the reality is that most of our church operating expenses continue. Feel free to use our website giving app or just send your check to the church via mail or drop it off. The office remains open.

As any new decisions are made, we will let you know through all our communication channels.

Please join us in praying regularly for our church family, for our president, governor, civic leaders, health professionals, and all those who are the most vulnerable to the coronavirus. May the Lord give great wisdom as we navigate these incredibly tenuous times. For the great glory of our Savior and King.

Trusting the Lord for everything, along with you,

Pastor Ed

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39
