One of the important spiritual disciplines that contributes to spiritual growth is memorizing Scripture.

The apostle Paul agrees with this. And not only should you memorize Scripture but he said, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly..." (Col. 3:16). The Psalmist said, "I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you" (Ps. 119:11).

At Cornerstone, we do our best to encourage the practice of this spiritual discipline across the church through our Scripture Memory Program. We memorize verses of the Bible together on a weekly basis in our Growth Groups and in our Sunday School classes, usually one verse per week.

Here is the next passage we will memorize together:

I Peter 1:3-7

March 17 through April 20

As you learn a new verse continue to recite and meditate on previous verses

3/17-3/23   1 Peter 1:3

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,"

3/24-3/30   1 Peter 1:4

"to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,"

3/31-4/6   1 Peter 1:5

"who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a   salvation ready to be revealed in the last time."

4/7-4/13   1 Peter 1:6

"In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,"

4/14-4/20   1 Peter 1:7

"so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more   precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ."

In 2018 our Scripture Memory Program was connected with the New City Catechism (NCC). The NCC is a terrific tool that is designed to teach foundational doctrine to people of any age. If you would like to explore our NCC resources, click here.
