What's a catechism?

A catechism is a discipleship or teaching tool. It's the study of biblical doctrine using the practice of question and answer recitation. Catechisms are less individualistic and more communal, and generally provide a group, including children, with foundational biblical theology, practical ethics and a spiritual experience. Catechisms are used to teach both children and adults the essential beliefs of the Christian faith.

New City Catechism

The New City Catechism consists of 52 questions and answers. The easiest way to use this affirmation of Scripture is to memorize one question and answer each week of the year. Because it is intended to stimulate dialogue, it is best to learn the questions and answers as a family unit or in a study group. The New City Catechism is a joint adult and children's catechism is made available through The Gospel Coalition.

The New City Catechism is divided into three parts to make it easier to learn in sections:

Part 1: God, Creation and Fall, Law   (20 questions)

Part 2: Christ, Redemption, Grace   (15 questions)

Part 3: Spirit, Restoration, Growing in Grace   (17 questions)
