Psalm 23:5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
This week, take time to go deeper by meditating on the Scripture from Sunday’s sermon and prayerfully applying it to your life. Use these questions to guide your reflection in a journal or notebook.
- Reflect on the imagery of the Shepherd becoming your Host.
What stands out to you about the movement from the valley (v. 4) to the table (v. 5)? How does this deepen your understanding of what Christ has done for you through His suffering and victory? In what ways do you need to receive His welcome more fully? - Consider the phrase, “in the presence of my enemies.”
What “enemies” (fears, trials, spiritual battles, uncertainties) are currently surrounding you? How does this verse reshape your perspective on those threats? What would it look like to rest in Christ’s provision and security right there, rather than waiting for circumstances to change? - Read Romans 8:31–39.
How does the finished work of Christ guarantee your security at the Shepherd’s table? Which truths in this passage most strengthen your confidence in God’s care for you? - Reflect on the phrase, “You anoint my head with oil.”
The sermon described this as a lavish, abundant expression of grace. Where are you tempted to believe that God is sparing or restrained in His kindness toward you? How does the gospel correct that thinking? - Meditate on the words, “my cup overflows.”
In what ways have you experienced God’s generosity in your life—spiritually, relationally, or materially? How might a clearer view of His overflowing goodness change your prayers, your contentment, or your gratitude this week? - Read Ephesians 3:14–21.
How does Paul’s prayer help you grasp the depth and abundance of God’s love? What would it look like for you to ask boldly, trusting in God’s ability to do “far more abundantly than all that we ask or think”? - Prayer Response
Write a prayer to the Lord, thanking Him for His abundant hospitality in Christ. Ask Him to deepen your trust in His heart, especially in areas where you have believed He is withholding good from you. Invite Him to help you rest at His table with joy and confidence this week.
