“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.'”  Matthew 28:18-20

As John Piper wrote in his book, Let the Nations Be Glad, “Missions is not the ultimate goal of the Church.  Worship is. Missions exist because worship doesn’t.  Worship is ultimate, not missions because God is ultimate, not man.  When this age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more.  It is a temporary necessity.  But worship abides forever.”

Missions

At Cornerstone, we want to join with God in his ultimate purpose– bringing the life-transforming gospel message to all who will believe.  There are many ways to join in this work, and we want to encourage our congregation to get personally involved with our missionaries as well as to engage in other mission opportunities.

While strategies and the contexts of missions may change, the gospel message and the need to proclaim that message to those who have not heard it will never change.  Our priorities are evangelism to the lost, discipleship of the redeemed, and the planting of local churches among all nations.

OUR GOAL

Our goal is to recruit, train, send out, and support both short-term and full-time missionaries. We focus on fostering the relationship between our congregation and our various missionaries and ministries.  We specifically desire to encourage mission-mindedness and personal mission involvement of the individual members of our congregation. Through this involvement, our congregation will become closely involved with the individual missionaries and agencies that we financially support and the people groups they serve.  By engaging in mission outreach, we hope to foster excitement about and involvement in the many realms of God’s work throughout the world.

OUR METHODS

We directly support a number of Missionaries and Ministries both locally and around the world and we encourage our congregation to participate in short-term mission trips to support them as opportunities arise. We have also sent teams annually to the JAARS service center (part of Wycliffe Bible Translators) near Charlotte, NC, to contribute to ongoing efforts and to gain exposure through participation in the work that God is currently doing through that ministry. We have found it to be an easy introduction for those who have less experience with overseas missions.  Of course, we’re excited about anyone in our congregation who wants to join in the work of spreading the gospel.

Let us know how you’d like to serve.  We’d like to help!

“And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.'”  Mark 16:15-16
