Paul Tautges has been our Senior Pastor here at Cornerstone Community Church since 2015, but also has a ministry as an author that has extended far beyond the pulpit. Ever since his salvation and initial discipleship in 1984, Pastor Paul felt a deep desire to teach, though he had no idea what form that calling would take. He remained obedient, pursued theological education and eventually stepped into pastoral ministry. Throughout his pastoral ministry, he wrote consistently about what he was learning, preaching, and teaching.
As he preached, counseled, and discipled others, he found himself naturally putting his thoughts into writing. Sermon notes turned into blog posts, devotionals, and later, full-length books. His books are not the product of a strategic career move, but rather the overflow of years of faithful ministry. What started as a personal devotion to God’s Word and a resource for his church eventually grew into a writing ministry that now reaches believers around the world.
Since the beginning, all of his writings have been an overflow from his personal study, preaching, and his blogging ministry with the intent of building up the people in his church. Because his books mostly have a topical focus, he often uses various elements from past writings and teachings of his. The process of turning a sermon into a book takes more than compiling spoken or written messages or teachings. Writing requires a shift in perspective so that what resonates in the spoken word can be re-crafted to engaging in a written format. He credits skilled editors and publishers for helping shape his writing into accessible and impactful resources. His latest book, Remade (2023), is a prime example. Initially conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic, the project gave him the opportunity to explain our new identity in Christ and the process of sanctification which was made clearer as the publisher guided him to refine its direction.
The fruit of Pastor Paul’s writing ministry has been widespread, both within our church community and beyond. His books have served as tools for discipleship, helping individuals and small groups grow in their understanding of biblical truth. Many of his writings have been integrated into our counseling ministry, providing resources that guide people through various life challenges from a biblical perspective.
Additionally, his books have opened doors for unexpected opportunities. His work, Counseling One Another, led to an invitation to teach in Russia, where the book was later translated and used as a textbook in seminaries there and in Ukraine. His writing has also led to podcast and radio interviews, allowing him to share his biblical insights with a broader audience. He has also had the privilege of training pastors and believers overseas, sometimes even from his own home via virtual sessions. One example is, this week, he could teach over 100 people in South Africa through an online webinar format. Through it all, he remains focused on his primary calling—serving his local church—while allowing God to use his writings to reach others worldwide.
Ultimately, Pastor Paul’s writing is an extension of his pastoral ministry. He sees it as a way to equip believers both within and beyond his congregation, encouraging them to grow in their faith and apply biblical truth in their daily lives. While he never set out to be a published author, God has opened doors for his work to impact countless people. His commitment to writing is not about personal success but about faithfulness—faithfulness to the Word, to the church, and to the opportunities that God provides.
